Introduction to KSS LEAP Teaching Programme
Welcome to the Learning Essentials for Applied Paediatrics (LEAP) programme. Designed specifically for ST1 and ST2 trainees within the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex deanery, LEAP delivers a comprehensive, curriculum-mapped educational series. Our goal is to ensure you build a robust foundation in core paediatric specialties, offering dedicated monthly teaching days that directly align with your MRCPCH exam preparation and real-world clinical practice.

Frequently Asked Questions
My team already deliver a regular teaching day for KSS trainees - why should I have to do another?
Thank you for already contributing to the education & training of our next generation of consultants. These days are slightly different in that they are aimed specifically at ST1s and ST2s, are curriculum-mapped to meet their specific training needs, and all the materials you need will be given to you in advance.
I don't like the topic we've been given, we have no expertise on this topic here.
The content is pitched at the level of a trainee passing their MRCPCH exams, and shouldn't require any particular expertise! The distribution has been arbitrarily decided and will pilot for 2 years - days could be reallocated differently after this. Please feedback to tell us how it could be better!
We cannot facilitate releasing our trainees for teaching.
This is how everyone felt about GPSTs and FYs too! Other specialties in KSS who accommodate FYs, GPSTs and their own specialty trainees (e.g. psychiatry) are able to make it work, and other deaneries also make it work. We understand it will be difficult especially at the start - we have aimed to pick a day that is as least disruptive as possible to all. Please reach out to us to discuss if you are struggling to accommodate.
